\nYesterday, I went to La R\u00e1bida which is close to the city of Huelva and about an hour to the west of Seville. This is the place from where Columbus left on his first voyage to the Americas. Anyway, I went to an event organised by the wine company Tierra Nuestra celebrating the 15th anniversary of their shop in the city of Huelva. I worked for Tierra Nuestra in Seville quite a few years ago and still have a link with the company.<\/div>\n
\nThey invited around 50 wineries to the event with each occupying a table with a selection of their wines to taste. There were a lot of top wineries from around Spain including Alvaro Palacios, Marqu\u00e9s de Gri\u00f1on, Hacienda Monasterio, Grupo Eguren, Aalto, Mauro, Pago de Carraovejas, Pesquera and a large etc. I tasted a lot of very good wines but would like to highlight two amongst them, Ferrer Bobet Selecci\u00f3n Especial 2011<\/b> and Villa de Corull\u00f3n 2012. <\/b>The first wine is from Priorat and is made from Carignan grapes that come from vines that are over a 100 years old. It has a wonderful nose of dark fruit whilst being very mineral. On the palate the tannins were very silky and the wine shows great balance with a great finish. The second wine is from El Bierzo and is 100% Mencia. The grapes come from 60 year old vines platned on slatey slopes. It shows very pure fruit and is again silky with a very refreshing finish.<\/div>\n
